Aida at the Royal Albert Hall

Fantastic evening last week at the Royal Albert Hall for Aida, the first time many in our group of twelve had experienced a spectacular opera production in this arena. We thought designer Isabella Bywater's idea of showing the fateful liaison of Aida and Radames through the imagination of a real 19th century Egyptologist was interesting, with archeological dig setting, Egyptian scenes projected onto giant screens and various other effects.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra did a sterling job conducted by Andrew Greenwood and the soloists were generally good, especially Indra Thomas as Aida and Tiziana Carraro in the role of Anmeris.

Lovely meal beforehand in the Elgar Room - delicious food though a bit of rush to get down to our Stalls seats and the inevitable long queues for the Ladies!

Looking forward to our next musical outing, to Cadogan Hall on the 13th for Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto along with works by Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Should be a great evening and looking forward to welcoming several new members and introducing them to fellow music lovers.

Then Royal Festival Hall and West End Theatre in May - see our Events page
